PART 2 OF 2 SERIES

So, in our last log we talked about the organic traffic in the form of wind. While we cannot make the wind blow, we sure as H can do something about it. Beyond harnessing the wind, we have the opportunity to get our hands all splintery – we can grab some oars & bring in some targeted traffic to our site.

Again, read on below through the lens of quality. The question you should be asking yourself isn’t, Do I have the things? Rather, Do my things have the customer/user in mind? Are my things working as well as they could?


2. Those Oars & The Arms Rowin’ ‘Em

We may not be able to sail forward without wind, but we can certainly move forward by paddling. Putting oars into the sea means paying some cheddar (I’m sorry I can’t help myself) to drive traffic to your site. It’s manual & requires effort to craft the visuals, the grabbing headline, copy & compelling call to action (CTA). Then you’ve got to decide on target demographics, decipher where they spend their time & how you can reach them – entice them to take a ride on the ol’ SS Your Website. It’s tough. You need experts to assist you & guide you on those open waters.

A large part of the challenge to row, row, row your boat like a boss in the middle of the goshgollygee ocean is to figure out a few things. How many oars do you you require, what’s their size/length & what kind of human power do you have onboard. Sometimes businesses grab these massive paddles with not enough rowers. Other times, we get the oar size to rower ratio right, but it doesn’t make sense for the size of the ship or maybe the sailors on board have no idea what they’re doing…. perhaps all they know is cheap bread & cheese. Why spend all this time, energy & money on a seaworthy ship only to burn cash on shoddy ads with not enough spend. Why utilize sirens of influence to beckon users to your site if they can’t find the product they were promised?

Not every ship (website) needs to be a sea-faring vessel of grandeur… likewise, it’s also not ok to be living this life as a business owner with a wakeless float that checks the “Yah, I have website” box. Something’s got to give. It’s time to upgrade your grilled cheese & if you’ve read to the end & tracked with this bonanza of metaphoric madness – we can be friends.
